In the Mid-Atlantic, generation costs (which do not include the costs to transmit and deliver the power) are currently in the range of 4 to 6 cents per kWh for wind power and landfill methane resources; the cost of other renewable energy technologies is typically higher. Long-term competitive opportunities for power from renewable resources will develop when the technologies can offer power in the range of 3 to 4 cents per kWh. As of 2004, Maryland generated 7 percent of its electric energy from hydroelectric and other renewable energy sources, compared to 1.8 percent in the PJM region. Renewable Energy Cost Trends
